Jose Maria Paz, President of the Electoral Board of Real Madrid, was the first to speak and announced: "As only one candidate was presented and accepted by this Electoral Board and in accordance with article 40 e) section 2 of the current Articles of Association of the Club, I hereby proclaim Florentino Perez the duly elected President”.
The President, who begins his fourth term of office at the Club, kicked off his acceptance speech by thanking the members for their support: “We begin a new chapter with the immense responsibility of leading the greatest football club in history. We thank the members for their support because they are the driving force of this club. The members decide what course to take and where they want the club to go and this loyalty to the colours is passed on from one generation to the next. These are passions that deserve the utmost dedication, effort, rigour and competitiveness. We know that we have given of our best and we will never give up. In the last four years we have taken a quantum leap. We are solid and now we have stability in the Club, we are world leaders and sound finances. I would also like to express my thanks to commitment and loyalty of the Board of Directors and to the millions of supporters who with their devotion make this Club even greater”.
Florentino Perez spoke also about the ambition that has always been a defining feature of the club throughout its history: “The future is already here and I want more. You have my word that we are going to strive to achieve those greater heights. Our members deserve our utmost efforts and total commitment from everyone at the club: the Board, the players, the coaching staff and everyone who works for this club. We are now known all over the world and we are the most valuable club in the world. This means we can ensure that the club belongs to its members and we are able to strengthen its sporting aspect every year. We have gone from a budget of 30 million to 300 million euro per year and this allows me to view the present and future with the conviction that as long as I am President of Real Madrid it will continue to put its members first. This is what our parents taught us and this is what we will pass on to our children”.
With regard to sporting matters, he had this to say: “This team has returned to core values: to win titles and to be loyal to the principle of fighting to the end. That is how we are going to continue until we win the Tenth Champions League and many more titles besides because, to quote L’Equipe 'this team is immortal'. We have a squad with immense strength in depth, with talent, hunger and determination. We also are fortunate to have a coaching staff that can deliver our high expectations and meet great challenges. In basketball we will go all-out to win the League and get into the Final Four again next season, while our reserves and youth teams’ home-grown talent make us unique. I have to say that Castilla and Real Madrid C have both thrilled us this season”.
About Real Madrid Sports City and its facilities: “It’s the first time that the youth academy has its own home. This is what it means to belong to Real Madrid and to build solidly for the future. The first team’s home will be at the cutting edge because we have a clear vision of how we want to grow and become even stronger. At the same time, there will be a theme park that will show the world all we have achieved so far and what we can go on to do”.
Finally, referring to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and to the Realmadrid Foundation, he said confidently: “The Santiago Bernabeu will soon be a unique architectural icon and an extraordinary legacy for future generations. Our mission is for the Foundation to continue to be the soul of this club and to reach every corner of the globe. All of this is possible thanks to the strength of our united efforts. Together we will experience new triumphs and we will rise to new heights. We will work together because together we will win”.
