News of Real Madrid’s performance in the Spanish Cup (Copa del Rey) semi-final second leg at the Camp Nou in the undisputable 1-3 win that put them through to the final has gone around the world. The major national and international sports newspapers resonated with the news in their digital editions. They all agreed about the great match that Jose Mourinho’s team played. "Real Madrid humiliate Barcelona" was the headline on 'Marca' and 'ABC' newspapers, while 'AS' led with: "Cristiano dances around Barcelona". The foreign papers summed the match up as a "beating" or that Real Madrid "reign victorious in the Camp Nou", amongst other things.
Marca explained in the subheading of their match report that "Real Madrid reached the cup final after beating their arch-rivals away from a home and leaving their mark". For their part, AS highlighted Cristiano Ronaldo’s and Varane’s great matches as the scorers on the night: "Ronaldo scored two goals, one from a penalty for a foul on him, and shattered a Barcelona side that were a shadow of the normal selves. Varane once again had a superb performance and scored the third".
The Catalan press also spoke about the Whites’ display. "Cristiano and Varane destroy the Camp Nou", said 'Mundo Deportivo'. The general newspapers also wrote in the same vein. Abc’s headline was "Real Madrid humiliate Barcelona at the Camp Nou". 'El Mundo' spoke of the "historic assault at the Camp Nou", and the subtitle reads that "two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and another from Varane concluded the lesson from Mourinho’s team".
The Italian 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' spoke about the "shock against Barca" and that Real Madrid left them "KO’d at home". Furthermore, they emphasise "Ronaldo’s brace" and that "Mourinho's team are in the final of the Copa del Rey". France Football lead with "Real overcome Barca", and in the match report highlight that the Whites "had one of their best performances of the season after slapping the Catalans (3-1) at the Camp Nou in the semi-finals of the cup". 'L'Equipe' write about "a magnificent Real Madrid".
The German site Kicker praised Real Madrid's Portuguese forward: "Ronaldo reigns victorious at the Camp Nou". In the match report they explain that the Whites "put another finger in Barcelona’s open wound" and stressed that the Catalan side "suffered an embarrassing defeat to their arch-rivals". The Portuguese newspaper, 'A Bola' referred to Real Madrid’s win as follows: "Real Madrid leave the Camp Nou with a 3-1 win and secure their place in the Copa del Rey final". O Jogo’s headline was: "Ronaldo had the Camp Nou at his feet". And referred to the six consecutive Clasicos in which the Portuguese forward has scored in the Catalan stadium: "He scored twice and broke another record by scoring in his sixth consecutive visit to their arch-rivals’ ground". Sport.de (Netherlands) said in its headline that "Real Madrid humiliate Barcelona", while in the body of the match report they describe Ronaldo as "a superstar".
In the Americas, ESPN were also blunt in their assessment of the match: "Barcelona crushed by Real Madrid in the Camp Nou. Cristiano Ronaldo was the inspiration". The Argentinian newspaper 'Ole' said in their article that it was "a Real beating" and that they surrendered to Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo: "Historical, surprising, unprecedented. That describes Real Madrid’s beating of Messi’s super Barcelona. That gave Mourinho's team a taste of what it is to celebrate a win in the Camp Nou, in a match the great Ronaldo imposed himself from the start".
